Welcome to the Australian Heritage Touring and Accommodation web site Australia has a rich architectural history, much of it built in the nineteenth century. Superb churches, town halls, post offices, schools and other civic works can be found in regional towns throughout the length and breadth of the country. Many of these architectural gems can be found in out of the way places, and their history is interwoven with fascinating stories of the early pioneering families. The Australian Heritage Touring and Accommodation Guide provides a comprehensive and insightful guide both to the remarkable architectural legacy which has been bequeathed to us. In addition, it lists accommodation in these townships which are themselves historically significant allowing travellers to stay in B&Bs or Hotels which reflect the historical ambience of the towns. |

HERITAGE ACCOMMODATIONKaralilla Bed & Breakfast (1911)
Karallila was built in 1911 with bricks made from the 'rich red soil' of the property for the late Mr Samuel Maddock. Born at Allan’s Flat, Victoria, in 1865, as a young man Samuel joined the gold rush to Western Australia. Upon returning from the goldfields, he bought the property at Ben Valley near Yackandandah and built the house, firing the bricks nearby. Samuel married his wife, Fanny, on 30 December 1896 and together the couple raised 12 children. |
